We strive to make a difference in communities by funding charitable initiatives through grants and donations. Our primary focus is arts and culture grantmaking, supporting local artists and student artists in the Dali Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province, China. We also continue to aid underserved children and elderly in the region with access to education and health care, working with individuals identified directly within their communities.
Art and Culture Grantmaking
The cultural heritage of Dali lives in the hands of its artists — the weavers, wood carvers, and ceramicists whose craft carries centuries of tradition. Henix Foundation provides grant funding to local artists and student artists across the prefecture, helping them afford the materials, workspace, and instruction that might otherwise remain out of reach. We place particular emphasis on young people pursuing artistic study, for whom early support often determines whether a practice takes root at all. By investing directly in individual artists, we seek to sustain the living traditions of the region and ensure that the next generation inherits not only the artistry of Dali, but the means to carry it forward.
Grants to Underserved Children and Elderly of Dali Autonomous Prefecture
The Dali Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan is a region of deep history and ethnic diversity, once home to the Kingdom of Nanzhao and later the Dali Kingdom. Its economy remains largely rural, sustained by agriculture around Erhai Lake and by traditional craftsmanship. Many communities still face gaps in essential services: children contend with limited school resources, while elderly residents relying on subsistence farming struggle to obtain medical care. Working alongside local teachers and medical professionals, Henix Foundation identifies those most in need and provides targeted grants covering educational costs for students and healthcare for the elderly, on an individually identified basis.
July 20, 2026 — Murals Completed at Baiya Castle
The project we announced last December is now complete. Over the summer, art students from Hongyan No. 2 Middle School (红岩二中) worked alongside local artists to paint a series of murals through the village at Baiya Castle. Their designs draw on the imagery of the region — farmers at work in terraced fields, layered mountains beneath a rising sun, sunflowers and drifting clouds, and the names 白崖城 and 红岩 rendered in bold calligraphy across the old walls. We are grateful to the students, their teachers, and the residents of Hongyan Town for welcoming the work.
December 20, 2025 — A Mural Project at Baiya Castle
We have identified a promising partner project with local art students to create a series of murals around the cultural ruins of Baiya Castle, in Hongyan Town of Midu County. Once the seat of the Baizi Kingdom and a forerunner of Nanzhao, the site’s earthen walls date to the early Tang dynasty and mark one of the origin points of Bai culture in Dali. We look forward to sharing more as the project takes shape.
November 12, 2025 — A Shift in Focus
Supporting local schools and hospitals has proven difficult in practice. As Chinese government institutions, they carry administrative requirements that a foundation of our size is not well positioned to navigate. Going forward, we will concentrate on identifying individuals in need and assisting them directly, and arts and culture grantmaking will take a front seat among our initiatives. We remain committed to the general health and education of underserved youth and elderly in Dali, now on an individually identified basis.
